Happy Birthday to Me! | Turning 30
Happy Birthday to me! Today, 21st August is my birthday and it’s a big one this year, 30! I’m spending today having a day out with Will but I thought I would share with you a few photos from my birthday meal, which we went out for on Saturday night.
We went out to a restaurant local to us called Etc…. It’s somewhere I’ve wanted to try for a while and my 30th birthday seemed the perfect occasion. They have a huge cocktail selection and on the night we went, they had a special cocktail menu which was available for that weekend only. Will and I tried cocktails from both menus and they did not disappoint! The first cocktail Will had was called Bitter Sweet which was a mix of lemon and honey infused gin with Yellow Chartreuse and Lillet Blanc. I had the pink glittery one which was called Madame Violette and was a mixture of Créme de Violette liqueur, aromatic bitters, prosecco and glitter. It was so pretty, the perfect birthday cocktail and if you watched my Instagram stories on Saturday night then you might have seen a boomerang of me stirring the glitter around.
Our second round of cocktails was just as good as the first if I’m honest, despite not being from their special menu. Proof that their regular cocktail menu is not to be sniffed at I guess! I had the Eccentric Peach Iced Tea which was vodka based and Will had one called Magic Sherbet Lemon; vodka, limoncello, fresh lemon juice, ginger syrup and soda. I love peach things, so I was really happy to see a peach iced tea cocktail on the menu. I tried both of Will’s cocktails too and they were lovely. If we go again I would definitely have the Magic Sherbet Lemon, it was so refreshing!
We were planning on having a full-blown three-course meal but when we got there we both immediately knew we wanted steak so decided to skip the starters and go straight for the main course. Will and I both opted for the same steak on the menu, which was called Raising the Steaks. The steak itself was lovely, as was everything really. The only disappoint was that it wasn’t served as it was listed on the menu. It said it came with mushroom ketchup, fondant potatoes, baby carrots and a truffle jus but it just came with chips, vine tomatoes and a flat mushroom.
Something that definitely perked me up was dessert! They have a dessert called Willy Wonka and I think after looking at the photo below you’ll agree, it’s pretty amazing. Jelly, a lollipop, bubble gum ice cream, a chocolate macaroon, honeycomb and rainbow sherbet; what a mixture! Definitely the highlight of the evening.
All in all, we had a lovely time and it was a great start to my birthday celebrations! I hope you’re all having a lovely day and I’m sure I’ll have another post up soon about what we got up on my actual birthday too.
