What personal data I collect and why I collect it


When visitors leave comments on the site WordPress and this site collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

If you use the contact form on this website your name, email address and any other information you include in your message may be stored by WordPress or this website for both the purpose of responding to the message and customer service. This data is not used for marketing purposes.


Cookies are used by this website to collect browsing data. I view the information collected by these cookies to see how many people have viewed a particular blog post and use this information to create content people have shown an interest in previously. I do not make any attempt to use this information to identify an individual and neither does WordPress.

This website uses Google Analytics which is a third-party service. Google Analytics collects standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns (first-party cookies, data related to the device/browser used to access this website and IP address and on-site/app activities).

This is to measure and report statistics about user interactions. I use this information to monitor my blog statistics. This information is useful in determining what the best day and time to post a new blog post is and to help me create content in the future by seeing which blog posts receive more views/comments than others.

This information is not published anywhere on my blog and is not processed in a way that identifies individuals. I do not use this information to identify any individual accessing this website and I do not allow Google to do this either.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this website, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data WordPress are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
